How Bitcoin Changed My Life

Comprehend Me

This essay unfolds through the voices of four different individuals: first, there’s a girl. Then, two of them were me, nearly a decade apart, nearly a decade ago: Confuse Me and Explore Me, respectively, chronologically. And one of them, who happens to be me right now: Comprehend Me.

Comprehend Me

What follows is an English translation of an unpublished essay I penned roughly ten years back, shortly after I discovered Bitcoin.

Explore Me

I always wanted to be a writer, but my performance in high school literature classes completely discouraged me from this path, so I became a programmer.

Like every confused 15-year-old teenager who felt some artistic ambition in themselves at the dawn of the Internet, I also started blogging, which accompanied my life for the next half decade, then suddenly the blogging platform’s servers went down and I lost it all. Adolescence in the trash: slowly hope died too, the memories faded, the feelings disappeared. And now… I managed to retrieve some of my writings from that time.

Explore Me

Confuse Me

Hopeless. I feel the time has finally come for me to briefly and concisely express my political views:

Politics sucks, I don’t understand it, I don’t talk about it.

Confuse Me

The average person should not talk about it unnecessarily, because they don’t understand anything. No matter how much they think they think they do, they absolutely do not. Every sheep is misleadingly led in this country in a demagogic way. You and me alike. And nothing can be done against this.

Our past is bloody, our present is terrible, fortunately, we have no future.

Explore Me

Besides knowing the meaning of the word demagogic at such a young age (I had to look it up in the dictionary now. (Comprehend Me: this time I asked an AI.)) and being such a troubled teenager, I made another shocking discovery.
I was right. This really was hopeless, and recognizing this hopelessness made me so ignorant about the affairs of the world that during my years at the Technical University, I had no idea who the Prime Minister was.

There, then everything falls apart. Then you realize that you will not save the world, you will not become easily famous or rich, you will not be talented, but even if you are, they will not notice. Then you realize that you may end up in a small dusty office and spend all day shuffling the files and running for coffee for the boss.

— a girl

Then Bitcoin. From total detachment from economic and political topics, from years of total disillusionment, I got to total obsession in a week. I always wanted to turn the world upside down, and now I have the tool for it. The time of central banks, aristocratic social arrangements, and all the corruption that comes with it, is over. Satoshi found the solution, implemented it, and then disappeared.

The machine is working, the creator rests.

And now it’s my turn to add something, because I don’t want to end up like this:

In the last moment, what will you think about? You realize that you haven’t done anything that you would now happily look back on! Like this for the last time… You won’t smile. You won’t be proud and self-satisfied. A tear will run down from your eye. A tear with which you say goodbye and apologize to the world for not being

to its use.

— the same girl

Comprehend Me

With the winds of the Bitcoin revolution at my back, I stand tall today. I’ve found my stride and purpose. Want a glimpse of the future I’ve embraced? Download Wasabi Wallet, little cypherpunk!
